Michael Poles, MD, Named "Teacher of the Year" at Winterfest 2011

Dr. Michael Poles.Dr. Michael Poles attended Cornell University for his undergraduate education.  After graduating from NYU School of Medicine in 1992, he remained at NYU for his residency training and served as the Senior Chief Resident during the 1995-1996 academic year.  Following residency, Dr. Poles headed west to UCLA, where he completed his clinical gastroenterology fellowship and earned a Ph.D. in Microbiology/Immunology.  He returned to NYU and the VA New York Harbor Healthcare System in 2001 as a gastroenterology attending.  Since 2008, Dr. Poles has served as the Fellowship Program Director of the Division of Gastroenterology.

With an office fully equipped with candy at all times, it is no surprise that Dr. Poles is well-known to the residents as incredibly approachable.  He has a relaxed, calm demeanor that puts residents at ease.  He is an enthusiastic teacher and has a reputation for giving excellent lectures.  Dr. Michael A. Poles is the recipient of the VA Teacher of the Year Award for 2010.
