Dr. Elizabeth H. Weinshel is Associate Professor of Medicine at the NYU School of Medicine, and Chief of the Gastroenterology Section at the Veterans Affairs Hospital - New York Harbor Healthcare System (VA NY Harbor) in Manhattan.
Dr. Weinshel is a firm chief at the NYU School of Medicine and has been Deputy Chief of Staff at VA NY Harbor for more than 10 years. She is Chairperson of VA NY Harbor’s Operative and Other Invasive Procedures Committee which oversees all aspects of procedures performed at that Hospital, and is Chair of the VA National Gastroenterology Field Advisory Committee.
Board certified in Gastroenterology, Dr. Weinshel's patient practice is focused on general gastroenterology and gastrointestinal endoscopy. She takes care of patients with a wide range of gastrointestinal health issues, from colon cancer screening to gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) to inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
Dr. Weinshel’s research interests include gastrointestinal endoscopy, medical education, nutrition, and patient safety. She has published numerous abstracts, posters, and peer-reviewed manuscripts.
In 2012, Dr. Weinshel received the NYU Langone Department of Medicine’s Special Award for Merit, in recognition of her dedication, commitment, and excellence as a teacher and role model for medical students, residents, and fellows. A fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology, Dr. Weinshel is also a member of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, New York Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and New York Gastroenterological Association.
Dr. Weinshel received her medical degree from the NYU School of Medicine. She served her internship and residency at Bronx Municipal Hospital Center, and returned to NYU to become a Gastroenterology fellow at the VA NY Harbor Hospital. She became Chief Resident in Medicine and stayed on as an attending physician in Gastroenterology at the VA NY Harbor.
