The Division of Medical Humanities was established within the Department of Medicine on January 1st 2011. The Division has ongoing collaborations with other entities within the New York University School of Medicine and New York University. The inaugural Division Director is Robert Anderson, M.D., Clinical Professor of Medicine.

 Dr. Anderson formerly was a faculty member of the Department of Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine for more than 40 years.  There, Dr. Anderson was the Gordon Meiklejohn Endowed Professor of Medicine and the Chair of the Department of Medicine for eight years until his retirement from the University of Colorado in 2010.
