Letter from Division Director, Dr. Edward Skolnik

Edward Y. Skolnik, MD
Director, NYU Division of Nephrology

This is a very exciting time in nephrology. We are starting to understand diseases molecularly, rather than just categorizing them based on how they look histologically. Once you enter into the molecular realm, you can begin to directly address specific causes of kidney disease with targeted therapies.

It is also an exciting time for the division. We have an incredibly rich legacy on which to build, especially in the area of clinical care and basic research. New faculty recruitments are having a big impact.

Today the division is superb clinically, and we are continually building our research component as well. We are now members of several multi-institutional studies of important kidney diseases. And as we solidify our infrastructure, we are enhancing our ability to link highly innovative basic science to translational clinical research.
